HM Cup Final : Preview25/May/2017
Dhofar have a keen eye on a historic double this season as they prepare to take on Suwaiq in the His Mjaesty’s final today. Suwaiq, on the other hand, will want to make history, honouring their patrons and fans with Oman’s most prestigious footballing honour.
A win for Dhofar means they will clinch their 4th Domestic double and 9th HM Cup title. Suwaiq chase their 3rd, hoping to make a deeper dent in the history of the Cup.
Suwaiq has had a tough season, from near champions of the league last season to being one of it’s most struggling sides at the end of the first half of the season. A turnaround under renown coach Hakeem Shakir, ensured that they got to mid-table and are now finalists.
“We miss 4 key players for the final, but we believe in ourselves and our fans, who we owe a return to the golden days.” He said when asked about his side’s chances in the cup.
Dhofar, in contrast, successfully chased down Shabab and won the league title. They now stand poised to win a cup double and are favourites, a victory making them Oman’s most successful team.
Molay Al Hassan, Dhofar’s coach, aired his thoughts ahead of the game as he said:
“Everyone in Salalah wants the double, we believe we can do it and we know it will be a challenge with Suwaiq but we want to bring the trophy home”
The match kicks off at 19:15 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex today.
