Saham continue title defence as Jalan fail to overturn deficit14/February/2017
Saham qualified to the Semi-finals of the His Majesty’s Cup after successfully holding onto their lead from the first leg to continue the title defence.
Jalan had a 2 goal deficit to overturn from the first leg and had their task cut out for them at the Sur Stadium.
The first half played out with both teams cancelling each other out, leaving it to end scoreless.
Things came alive early in the second half, Jalan taking the lead in the match after a free kick from the wide areas deep in Saham territory. Nyanj Basi rose highest to meet the cross and bring the tie to life as he nodded the goal past Suleiman Bureiki in the 50th minute.
Saham showed the mettle of champions though, keeping their cool and their lead in the tie by not conceding a second. The result meant their title defence continues as they qualify to the semi-finals.
