Suwaiq and Salam play out thriller

It was a cup run that keeps alive the romance of the competition. It was hard fought, cleverly played and consistently delivered but that all ended when Suwaiq and Salam drew 2-2 at the Sohar Sports Complex.

Salam were down a goal from the first leg as they visited Suwaiq hoping to continue their cup run with an away victory.

It all went horribly wrong however, when Suwaiq took the lead in the 19th minute as Amar Al Fazari took advantage of confusion in the box to make the keeper guess wrong and slot at this far post across the face of the goal.

The half ended 1-0 but Suwaiq doubled Salam’s misery when Al Abed Noufli used his physical presence to muscle out a defender, cut inside (from inside the box) and rifle home a second despite Matar Al Washahi getting a hand to it.

2-0 down and 3 goals behind in the tie, Salam found within themselves the steel to fight back.

Dialo scored their first as he slotted home the rebound from a well struck free kick that troubled the keeper, all the way from 40 yards out.

The goal injected life into the Salam side and they soon found a second as Dee Salas rose highest in the 82nd minute to place a header into the top corner – an unstoppable effort!

8 minutes to go and the scores level, Salam just needed a third goal to qualify but alas could not find one.

The result sees Suwaiq qualify for the semi-finals and makes the His Majesty’s Cup their best chance at a trophy this season.
